can i layer unfinished compost under finished compost on next years beds?
I just moved into a new apartment with a good sized garden, but the soil here leaves a lot to be desired. I just raked up all of the mulch and weeds and bark that were on the patio and tiny lawn area, and i was about to dump it in the truck to go to the dump, but before i did that, i had an idea. I am going to bring in a yard or 2 of fresh compost to the garden (it is about 12 by 15 feet) and i was wondering if it might be a good idea to put all of the organic matter that i just picked up under that compost layer. after i put the compost layer on i am planning on putting a 4-6 inch layer of seaweed on top. the compost is going to be about 6-8 inches thick, with the additional 4-6 inches of seaweed, so maybe over the winter the compost layer will break down the leaves and stuff underneath it? is this a silly idea?
